Barron’s IELTS Superpack Review
When I started following Barron’s IELTS Superpack, I was too shocked to learn that they are using US English more. And I was getting a very good band score in the practice tests of Barron (because they are easy).
After completing that book, I switched to the Cambridge Practice Book series and then I realized that Barron is not up-to the mark/level of the IELTS exam. The Reading and Listening tests (of Cambridge) are hard as compared to that of Barron and they give (us) the students real exposure to the IELTS questions.
As far as you are concerned with counter-productiveness, I think it won’t affect you. Because you are still practising the Reading and Listening tests and are learning how to answer the questions, irrespective of the fact that most of the text is in US English. I get a Listening section in the US accent in my IELTS exam. As far as, you are writing the ‘right’ English in the IELTS exam, it won’t affect your band score.
So, in short, I would not recommend using that book. Although I had completed that book. Please don’t waste your time on that book and switch to the Cambridge series. There are 15 books in the series, so a total of 44 Practice Tests are sufficient to practice for getting a very good band score.
